Holiday Joy + Arborvitae Doterra Bogo Week Wednesday November 2017 1

Holiday Joy

this is a lovely combination of siberian fir, wild orange, clove bud, cinnamon, cassia, douglas fir, birch, nutmeg and vanilla.  It smells like christmas in a bottle.  It is only available for a limited time so I get it every december and diffuse it all month long.  It has a warm spicy scent that makes the house feel cozy when it is chilly outside.  It is grounding for the soul and uplifting for the spirit.  I love when this time of year comes around so that I can get my hands on this little nugget.

Arborvitae + Holiday Joy Doterra Bogo Week Wednesday November 2017

Arborvitae

This is an underrated powerhouse in the essential oil world.  The name Arborvitae literally translates into tree of life.  They can grow to be 1,600 years old and their oil is so prolific within the fiber of the wood that it wont rot because the moisture cant hurt it.  It is a variety of cedar tree and bugs don’t like it so literally the logs just lay there for hundreds of years.

Doterra does a great thing with this oil in their sourcing and that is that they get the sawdust from a cedar roofing manufacturing company, distill the oil from the sawdust, then donate the pulp that is left after the oil is distilled to a paper factory so that there no waste and little impact.

So how can you use it.

  1. Use it in meditation It is an amazing grounding oil
  2. Good for respiratory support diffuse regularly
  3. I like to mix it with clary sage, cinnamon and rosemary in the diffuser,
  4. Massage into tired feet not only will if feel good, but arborvitae is anti fungal
  5. It deters bugs, so you can put some on a cotton ball and put in the attic or in rooms that aren’t used very often.
  6. Add Arborvitae to any mens blend of oils for a grounding and earthy base note.

Doterra BOGO Week Monday November 2017 Buy On Guard Essential Oil and get Breathe Essential Oil Free

Doterra BOGO Week Monday November 2017 Buy On Guard Essential Oil and get Breathe Essential Oil Free

Holy Greatness.  I love when doterra does a bogo week.  This time is no exception as we are starting the week off strong with Buy On Guard Essential Oil Blend and Get Breathe Essential Oil Blend for free.  Yippee, these are both oils that I use in my home daily.

On Guard Essential Oil

Lets start with on guard.  This is a powerhouse of an oil chalk full of antioxidants (from the clove oil in the blend), and Limonene D (from the wild orange) which is a cholesterol solvent and in this study was shown effective in reducing cholesterol in gall stones.   This power house oil can not only disinfect your home surfaces, but can kill airborne bacteria and by simply diffusing it or putting a drop on your furnace filter when you change it.  And it will boost your immune system the whole time.  It sounds like a busy oil, but it is surprisingly grounding.

I also love On Guard for it’s amazing ability to shift the energy in my house as I transition from outside activities that are prominent in the fall to more inside activities. It has a warm spicy grounding aroma that always works well for me this time of year.

Breathe Essential Oil

This is the oil that turned me on to doterra.  It smells absolutely delightful and is extremely effective in respiratory support opening the airways, leaving your body feeling surprisingly light.  My husband, Scott, diffuses it every night on his side of the bed because although lemon and peppermint can be uplifting, having open airways helps him sleep more calm and deep.  He loves it.  I also love it and use it before a workout, whenever my chest feels full, to maintain healthy sinuses and I also put a drop on my yoga towel so that when I get to savasana I can lie in complete relaxation.

Every day this week there will be a new pair of BOGO oils so stay tuned this week for more bogo deals.

Essential Oil Books for General Information about Essential Oils

Over the years I have read a lot of books on essential oils, but the market has never been more flooded than it is right now.  I want to tell you about my favorite resources for finding general information on essential oils.  To make it easy, the title of each book has a direct link to amazon.

The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood.  This book is over 600 pages of awesomeness.  Mrs. Worwood has a PHD in complementary medicine, is the chair of the research board of the International Federation of Aromatherapists and is a consultant of clinical aromatherapy.  She knows her stuff and it shows throughout the 600 pages.  The index is to thorough that it is not difficult to find what you are looking for and it covers a range of topics from the science of oils, to a whole section on carrier oils as well as literally hundreds of recipes for men, women, babies, children and even pets.  If I could only choose 1 book, this would be it, it might be the best $19.00 I’ve Spent.  If you’re interested in it you can buy it here.

My Second Favorite Book is The Art of Aromatherapy by Robert B. Tisserand.  Mr. Tisserand is a pioneer in the aromatherapy field and while this book has a lot of information, it is a little different.  It covers fewer oils, but is a great source of history.  It covers how ancient civilizations used oils and some ancient recipes as well as current ones.  Sections in this book include “The Body”, “The Mind”, “Aromatic Baths’, “Massage” and “Skin Care” among others. Click Here to get your hands on this little gem.

Another book that I have loved for so long that the corners were chewed on by my dog, Donkey when he was a puppy (he is now 7) is Organic Body Care Recipes by Stephanie Tourles is a book of 175 recipes and herbal formulas for your skin.  This book is less about essential oils and more about making wholesome products for your skin. It was through this book that I learned how to make homemade lotion, how oils and waters can combine and a whole slew of other things.  It is truly a great book, however I will say that some of the skills you learn through this book take some time to hone in.  My first lotion recipe was a disaster, but over time I have mastered it thanks to this book.  And at $15 bucks it was a great addition to my library.

Rounding out my library is The Essential Guide to Aromatherapy and Vibrational Healing by Margaret Ann Lembo.  This book is entirely different as it focusses on the energetic level of essential oils and how they combine astrologically, or with different gemstones, or plants, numbers or colors.  With each oil it gives a positive affirmation to use with the oil either throughout the day or in a concentrated meditation practice.  I know there are a lot of people who think this type of things is absolute craziness, but if you are into energy work at all, this is a great resource.

Another tremendous resource is an app that has a companion book called Modern Essentials.  I love the book, but love the portability of an app.  If I am at the yoga studio and someone asks me what oils is good to support muscles after a rigorous class, I can just whip out my phone.  I love that this app and book list the many different oils that may help as well as they way to use them, and in some cases with recipes.  The book is awesome, but the app is a lifesaver when I’m on the go.

The final place where I keep current on studies that are being done about essential oils is the pub med websight where there is currently 17,077 articles that mention essential oils.  Yowza, it is all pretty sciency and some of it is hard to follow, but it is a tremendous resource none the less.

I hope this helps you to make some decisions on where to get information.. Leave me a comment about what Essential Oil Books are in your library, I love finding new treasures.

Introducing Dōterra Neroli Touch

Introducing Dōterra Neroli Touch

I have had a love affair with Neroli Essential Oil for a long time, and was ecstatic yesterday when at Convention I learned that Dōterra was introducing a Neroli Touch.

I fell in love with Neroli Essential Oil about a decade ago when my friend used Neroli on her wedding day, and without knowing anything about except the sweet scent permeating from her, I thought “OMG, I NEED that in my life”.

Yesterday, during the dōterra announcement that it was adding this beautiful oil to its arsenal of oils, I took tons of notes. Last night I turned to all my essential oil books to get even more information, because oil geeks bring there reference library to convention right…    Neroli is such a common essential oil that in one of my books alone the index cites 52 places where it is mentioned.  You know that saying “good things come in small packages”, well this is the perfect example. It takes 1 ton of flowers to produce  2 lbs of this extremely potent and powerful oil.

Neroli Oil is made from bitter orange blossoms.  Although Native to The Mediterranean, these plants, like many, have been transported and are thriving in many parts of the world.  Contrary to the fact that it comes from a plant named “bitter orange” the scent is quite sweet with spicy undertones and a bit of “greenness” lingers. Another interesting fact is that the flowers have to be picked before dawn or the precious oil will evaporate under the heat of the sun.  It is also important to note that it is most commonly “diluted” with petitgrain to bring the cost down, so in this case you get what you pay for and a less expensive oil  wont have the same benefits.

It wasn’t surprising to me to find out that neroli oil, among other benefits, is slightly hypnotic and tranquilizing, I mean I don’t typically fall in love that easily— I must have been hypnotized.

Neroli essential oil is thought to have gotten its name after Maria de la Tremoille, Princess of Neroli; who would spray her gloves with it, which soon became all the rage called Guanti di Neroli.  Their modesty in the 16th century amazes me, it is hot in the Mediterranean, I won’t put on gloves unless it is under 40F.  Women during the 16-17th centuries used this oil in wedding ceremonies both in their bridal bouquet and in the bridal chambers the night of the wedding.  It is said that the calming affects helped with pre-wedding jitters and any jitters that might occur that night.  Move over valium, Neroli smells so much better!  In addition, the Venetians were a very inventive crew, they used it to fight off the plague and flu. (Tisserand, 262)

Once made popular by Princess Neroli, the Venetians went crazy for it… You know the Venetians, they had to be in on every trend in the 16-17 centuries; a blatant display of wealth.  None the less, Neroli became very prized in Venice.  During this time, the time of not showering that is, Neroli mixed with Bergamot made it one of the first “Perfumes”.  I bet people in Venice were happy for this little concoction.  Even today the island stinks in the summer.  From Italy the popularity of Neroli Oil traveled south to Madrid, but not exactly in the way you would expect.

The scene in Madrid was a bit different. Madrid was where Neroli Oil was first identified as an aphrodisiac.  Prostitutes would don the oil so that their customers could identify their occupation.  I’m telling you today, I’m glad this scent isn’t a good indicator of occupation because I’ve been wearing it like crazy…. unless it is the scent of an Essential Oil Gangsta….   Anyway later research shows that it affects blood flow (it’s a blood cleanser) in a healthy way and supports the circulatory system.

It should be noted that 12% of modern perfumes user neroli, so it must have some qualities that attract others, as I can’t imagine that cosmetic companies would waste their time.  However you should know that if you are interested in making your own blend, Neroli is a top note, meaning the first to dissipate, and should be accompanied by a base and middle note.  This will be a later blog post…. so much to do, so little time.

So the nitty gritty of the oil.  Here are the formalities.

Therapeutic Properties of Neroli Oil according to- (Worwood pg 308):

  • antidepressant
  • anti-infectious
  • Antimicrobial
  • antiseptic
  • calmative
  • carminative
  • cicatrizing
  • circulative
  • cytophylactic
  • regenerative
  • restorative
  • sedative
  • spasmolytic
  • tonic

Therapeutic Uses for Neroli Oil according to- Worwood pg 608 :

  • Insomnia
  • Convalescence
  • indigestion
  • abdominal spasm
  • intestinal cramp
  • stress and related conditions
  • scar tissue
  • scarring
  • skin regenerating
  • acne
  • problematic skin
  • stretch marks
  • menopausal anxieties
  • sleep disorders
  • nervousness
  • depression
  • tension
  • emotional exhaustion

So clearly it has a lot of benefits, but in my mind I just love the scent, and now that we also have the new Rose touch I will be layering them on, smelling delightful.

If you are looking to make some blends with the oil itself, one of the most common historical perfumes is a mixture of Neroli, Lavender, Bergamot, Lemon and Rosemary in equal parts, this provides top middle and base notes for a well rounded scent.

The second mix, which is way lighter and sweeter is Neroli, Jazmine, Rose and Sandalwood.

Doterra Product of the Month September 2017

Doterra Product of the Month September 2017

I’m so excited about Doterra’s Product of the month and promotions for September 2017

Summer is ending and if you’re anything like me it can be bittersweet.  I hate seeing the days get shorter and losing sunrises to the fog up here in the Pacific Northwest.

Not to fear, dōTERRA’s Cheer touch is here.  This is one of my favorite blends, it is so uplifting and is the perfect scent to wear as we move into fall.  It is one of my all time favorite perfume substitutes the warm citrus scent is like a bottle of sunshine regardless of the weather outside.

The sweet part of  this bittersweet time is remembering all the parts of fall I love. The turning leaves, pots of soup on the stove and cuddling up with a blanket and a cup of herbal tea.

This being fall, and back to school season, the second  part of this Months Doterra Essential Oils promotion reminds me of when I returned to college 9 years after graduating high school at the age of 27, which I thought was ancient at the time. Because it had been so long since I had “studdied”  I took a little study skills lecture. One of the things they talked about was a study that shows that scents can trigger memories and that students who use a specific scent while studying and then again while testing scored better.  At the time they suggested butterscotch hard candy, but using peppermint touch is so much better for a number of reasons. Peppermint Essential Oil has the added benefit of relieving tension and increasing focus.  Peppermint touch is free with any 100 pv Loyalty Rewards Program order placed before the 15th of September 2017, and is prediluted with fractionated coconut oil in a rollerball.  Just throw it in your backpack and go ace that test!!!!!

I hope you enjoy this transition into fall as much as I will.

Peace in Haiku

Peace in Haiku

I have a daily routine.  After I get ready in the morning, I have my tea and read the trending news.  I read it from many sites to ensure that I get a well rounded view of what the right and left are both thinking on any given topic, then I form an opinion.  What I have noticed is that in today’s political climate it is becoming so difficult to be respectful and tolerant of others views when most of the time someone is on the hateful other end.  It is such a shame, I’ve never seen such a polarized community;  I worry that we could end up in serious civil unrest.  I mean why are we above it, you watch it happen in other civilized nations.   The thing that keeps screaming in my head is that we need to find peace….  I wish it for all of you, here is todays Haiku about Peace, Roll some on, roll with the punches, and love your neighbor, even if you don’t appreciate their values and opinions, chances are their heart is good.

Blood Rushes, Tides Rise

Drowning in Rage; Peace is Our

Although I am very aware that essential oils can’t cure the worlds problem (and trust me I wish they could), I do know that essential oils can affect emotions.  I’ve been wearing this grounding calming blend for a while.

Peace be With you,
