Marjoram Essential Oil

Greetings, this is a new oil to me, but I am always curious about oils I don’t already have and I opened it and LOVE it….. It has a mild herbal scent that has clean sweet undertones.  It is delightful, I have 2 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Marjoram and 2 drops Lavender, in my diffuser right how.  This combo was recommended by one of my books which says historically has been used to create a very relaxing and soothing combination.  I’m sure you could dilute it in a roller ball and use it topically as well as long as the area you apply it to isn’t exposed to direct sunlight. It smells so great and is very relaxing.

In ancient Egypt morjoram was used to heal disinfect and preserve.  Aphordite, the goddess of love, was said to have cherished this herb.  The Greeks name Marjoram translates to joy of the mountain and they used it to make wreaths and garlands for weddings and funerals.  It already sounds great right.

Marjoram Origanum morjorana has a variety of health benefits including stimulating the digestives systems’ ability to move waste through the body (peristalsis), but conversely can help soothe intestinal spasms (Tisserand, p252).  Because of its anti bacterial, antiseptic and anti-infectious properties, it is also often used as a substitute for Oregano Essential oil, although it has a more refined scent.

Tisserand goes on to explain that while not a disease, clergymen used marjoram to control excessive sexual impulses for many years and used it in asylums for orphans to control excessive masturbation and nymphomania especially when associated with hysteria or anxiety.   I like to think we all have a history, but who knew I was going to come across that while researching lovely smelling essential oils today.  I guess a practical modern application would be to diffuser this in your teenagers’ room if you feel like they is “too busy” in there.

This historical practice documented by Tisserand is substantiated by Margaret Ann Lembo (p209) where she describes the mental uses as “relaxing the body enough to release the grasp on repetitive and/or negative thoughts associated with fears, phobias , and obsessions.  Sweet marjoram also helps you to speak your truth with love and beauty.”.  Interesting!

Son in modern studies this pubmed article shows that a mixture of Marjoram, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary and peppermint diluted in a carrier oil comprised of Almond oil, Apricot oil and Jojoba oil, reduced pain in the arthritic group and reduced depression in both the control group and the study group.  That’s great news.

Additionally this Pubmed Article shows that a blend of Essential Oils including Morjoram, Black Pepper, Lavender and Peppermint may help neck pain by improving pain tolerance of the trapezius muscles after applying a cream comprised of 3% Essential Oil Solution.

Doterra Verage VS Essential Skin Care

One of the questions I get asked most frequently is “What is the difference between the different skin care lines that Doterra has?”.  and “Is the doterra Verage or Doterra Essentials skin care line better?”.  Both are excellent questions.  Here is how I understand it.

The HD Clear skin care line is for acne prone or problematic skin.   It consists of a foaming face wash, an oil blend to prevent breakouts and promote clear complexion and a moisturizing lotion.  Think Teenagers or people with acne prone skin.

The Verage Skin Care line is for average skin and has many anti aging properties.  This is going to nourish and feed healthy skin and help keep skin healthy and young while reducing the visible signs of aging using all natural .  It is delightful and consists of a Face wash, toner, serum and Moisturizer. This is a great regimen for people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s to keep skin young and healthy.

The Essential Skin Care line is for more mature skin and formulated using all plant extracts to reverse the signs of aging getting rid of fine lines and the dreaded “W” word.

Having said all of that I don’t use just one collection.  I have tried all the products and use them in different ways.  I started by ordering the Verage kit, but as items ran out, I started trying different things and ultimately came up with the following:

I love the invigorating scrub (so does my husband) and we use it daily when we are in Texas.  It smells great, is gentle and you can feel it tingling your skin.  However when we are at our cabin in Washington and out in the sun all day, my skin gets a little more oily so I will use the HD clear Foaming Face Wash.

I LOOOVVVEEE the Verage toner and use it exclusively.  It smells great and I like that you just spray it on for really even coverage.  (you can also spray it over your make-up to set your make-up)

I use the Skin Essentials Tightening Serum. How can you go wrong with the word tightening when you are dealing with aging skin.  And by aging I mean I’m 40 and have never taken good care of my skin.  Throughout most of my 20s I was lucky if I even washed my face let alone moisturized it.

I use the the Anti Aging Moisturizer when it is cold outside or at night because it is a little bit heavier than the Verage moisturizer. Then I use the Verage moisturizer during the day or when it is really hot because it is lighter.

I am in love with the anti aging eye cream and the applicator, and use that over my moisturizer in the mornings and at night.

So there you have it, those are the differences between the different lines, but I feel like within each line there are times when I use some products over others.  I hope this helps you decide.
